The Texas and Great Northern is a component of Home Shops’ owner Christopher Palmieri’s freelance Meridian Speedway. This railroad serves parts of Texas and the Deep South that are rich in timber with booming lumber and paper business.

This beautiful car is painted in the gorgeous “Tedder Green” that is also used on the railroad’s locomotives. Four numbers from the series TGN 520500-TGN 520999 are in this offering. This fleet represents cars that would ship paper and lumber products from Boise Southern in De Ridder. LA to destinations all across North America. Featuring extremely crisp stenciling, the assignment to the De Ridder facility and reverse routing instructions vis Silsbee, TX add character to these cars.

As the demand grew in the 70s for larger capacity boxcars, along with the need to replace aging 40 cars, this series of 50 double door boxes was produced by PC&F between 1972 and 1975. These boxcars are 50-7 in length with a capacity of either 5258 cu ft for standard cars, or 5119 cu ft for those equipped for DF (Damage Free) Loading. All B-70 boxcars feature Hydra-Cushion underframes and were delivered with either Youngstown or Superior doors.

The PC&F 5258 is an amazing car for freelance application! Many freelance model railroads handle paper products at one end of the journey from origin to destination. This car type also could plausibly have been used in general merchandise service hauling any of a wide variety of commodities.
