This car represents an Arkansas Valley “As Built” 1973 PC&F box car. Bathed in the gorgeous “Sperandeo Blue”, these cars designed for paper service are from a lot of 200 occupying Arkansas Valley series AV 16300-AV 16499. Created by Joe Loggans, the freelance Arkansas Valley railroad has been around for over four decades! This car is the third Arkansas Valley offering from Home Shops.

As the demand grew in the 70s for larger capacity boxcars, along with the need to replace aging 40 cars, this series of 50 double door boxes was produced by PC&F between 1972 and 1975. These boxcars are 50-7 in length with a capacity of either 5258 cu ft for standard cars, or 5119 cu ft for those equipped for DF (Damage Free) Loading. All B-70 boxcars feature Hydra-Cushion underframes and were delivered with either Youngstown or Superior doors.

The PC&F 5258 is an amazing car for freelance application! Many freelance model railroads handle paper products at one end of the journey from origin to destination. This car type also could plausibly have been used in general merchandise service hauling any of a wide variety of commodities.
